Rules for Start-Ups

Read this entry this morning, listing rules that all start-ups should have. Worth a read for anyone who works for or has founded a start-up company. Also made me think about what our Sling-Rules are here. I’ll take suggestions for a week or so whilst I try and formulate my own, so here’s your chance. What rules would help Slingshot become that which it hopes to be - the funnest place to make successful, commercial, ground-breaking movies in the UK?

Not sure I 100% agree with Calacanis on all his points. See Dennis’ post for his distinction between workaholics and committed people.

The blog is fascinating … but none of the links to the main website work.

Actually they work to the extent of downloading a lot of javascript in the background but nothing appears on screen in either Internet Explorer or Firefox. In the code there is a link to an “about.htm” page which does not seem to exist either.

    Is it me?

I think to begin with produce and distribute films in a niche market (such as Water Lillies in the ‘Gay & Lesbian area’) and build up from with similar films in that category.

Niche markets have a very strong potential to be ground-breaking. A fan base will grow, e.g they will susbscribe to the videos you put up online. and through support and word and mouth, more and more will they become commercial and successful.
